Celebrating 40 Years of Innovation: 1968-2008

Vote for Tom Larson

Tom Larson – Candidate for the ESDA Board of Directors - 2008

BIO

Tom Larson has been a member of the TREK team since 2003. His responsibilities have focused on ESD technologies and markets for the company’s electrostatic voltmeters, sensors and monitors.

Trained as an Electrical Engineer (Penn State), Tom understands the importance and significance of ESD education. In that regard, he is proud to have been one of the first 6 individuals to earn the “ESDA Certified Professional Program Manager” designation, which he achieved in the certification program’s inaugural year. Tom convinced his management to support 4 additional Trek individuals for pursuit of the same certification; those four certifications were achieved via the Fall 2007 certification exam.

Tom has been an active member of the ESDA for over 5 years. From the very beginning, Tom volunteered to help. He is an active member of several ESDA Working Groups: Ionization (WG 3), Automated Handlers (WG 10), Packaging (WG 11) and Gloves (WG 15). He is also an active member of the Education Committee and is now responsible for managing online tutorials via webinars. Tom’s EE background and ESD expertise, combined with his Masters in Computer Science (RPI), allow him to offer helpful suggestions regarding both content and delivery mechanisms for these tutorials. He is also the Assistant AV Chair for the upcoming EOS/ESD symposium.

Tom has presented numerous educational ESD awareness/measurement seminars to a wide variety of organizations and industries around the world. He has spread the word about the importance of ESD measurement and management throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

VISION

Tom Larson is well-qualified to assist the ESDA with its stated purpose and objectives, especially with regard to education (“education is the ESD Association's first priority”) and global reach (“the international focus of the ESD Association is vitally important”).

Tom looks forward to leveraging his personal dedication to education and his embracing of technology to assist the ESDA with its educational outreach efforts. It is through effective and efficient educational programs that ESD concepts will be better understood, standards continually developed, and solutions more readily found.

He also envisions playing a role in the increasing globalization of the ESDA organization by leveraging his personal and professional contacts and networks around the world. Through his participation in Electrostatics Society of America (ESA) and interactions with researchers in the ESD field, Tom understands the need to partner with other entities for mutual success.

In keeping with the ESDA’s broadening of its horizons (beyond just electronic components), Tom will also be able to offer insight on other potential ESD segments, due to his professional involvement with many university and R&D organizations, especially in the materials research area.

Lastly, Tom wants to reach out to the ESDA members by asking for their input and listening to their replies. By assuring that members are part of the information exchange, the ESDA can increase member satisfaction and thereby increase membership. Such communication initiatives and membership growth will benefit the ESDA in other ways, since it is through the interest and effort of its members that the ESDA can further expand, since volunteerism is critical for the organization’s success.

In conclusion, Tom brings a unique blend of skills, talent, expertise, education and fresh perspective to the Board of Directors.

Please support Tom Larson with your vote when you receive your ballot from ESDA in early May.
